TropiQ – Townsville’s Tropical Intelligence and Health Precinct

Townsville’s Tropical Intelligence and Health Precinct (TropiQ), is a new innovation precinct spanning 442 hectares, aimed at establishing the city of Townsville as an international leader in tropical intelligence and health.

TropiQ is a collaborative ecosystem of over 70 organisations, is strongly linked to the CBD and is anchored by James Cook University and Townsville University Hospital. Through purpose-built infrastructure, TropiQ drives innovation and fosters new inter-industry collaborations such as the soon to be developed NQ Spark (North Queensland Advanced Environmental Simulation Park). NQ Spark exploits the common boundary TropiQ shares with Australia’s largest army base, Lavarack Barracks, to deliver simulation capabilities that supports science, defence industries, health and medicine, emergency response and research capabilities.

At its maturity, TropiQ will be established as a highly sophisticated development precinct that:

is recognised as a regional, national and international hub
is a vibrant and liveable place that attracts people to work, learn, play and live
will create close to 20,000 jobs by 2035
will offer key investment opportunities across healthcare, hotels, commercial office, aged care & retirement living, childcare, residential and more.

TropiQ - Townsville’s Tropical Intelligence and Health Precinct

Ardo Hotel

Ardo is Townsville’s newest $88 million luxury hotel, opened in December 2023. The waterfront property is a key feature of the expanding leisure and entertainment precinct. The property features 132 rooms, two signature restaurants, day spa, and a rooftop pool and bar with views across the Coral Sea to Magnetic Island. Design inspiration began with the hotel’s exceptional location. Every aspect of the design was considered to showcase the uninterrupted ocean view and the stunning sunsets that come from its unique position on the breakwater. Ardo is the latest addition to the tourism portfolio of Morris Group which includes sister property, The Ville Resort-Casino, located next door.

North Queensland Cowboys Hutchinson Builders Centre of Excellence

The $40 million high-performance training centre for the North Queensland Cowboys was officially opened in Townsville in 2021. The Centre brings together the Cowboys’ core functions in a centralised sports administration and training, science and health ecosystem encompassing administration, hospitality, sports medicine and high-performance facilities over three levels in the one location.

The purpose-built Hutchinson Builders Centre boasts three swimming pools, an onsite café, a full-size outdoor training field, altitude simulation cardio and sleep rooms and an indoor multi use synthetic turf training field that converts to a hard-court sports floor.
