LOCAL GOVERNMENT BUDGET UPDATE

South-East Queensland Councils are currently releasing their budgets for the 2020-2021 financial year.

Gold Coast City Council

Gold Coast City Council have released their ‘Roads to Recovery’ budget geared towards supporting the City’s economic recovery from COVID-19.

Highlights of the budget include a $26.9 million support package for community and business which includes a $ 64 financial rebate on annual rates for certain properties.

Other key points in the Gold Coast’s 2020-2021 budget include:

  • $8.9 million in funding for Stage 3 of the light rail from Broadbeach to Burleigh
  • $1.75 million to identify Stage 4 of the light rail project
  • $8.2 million for design completion and building of Robina City Parklands

Sunshine Coast City Council

Sunshine Coast City Council have announced a $780 million 2020/21 budget.

The budget outlines a 2% rate rise, with a one off $35 COVID-19 recovery payment.

Other highlights of the Sunshine Coast City Council include:

  • $242.4 million capital works program
  • $40 million to start construction on the City Hall in the Maroochydore City Centre
  • $37.5 million to complete the Sunshine Coast Airport expansion

Redland City Council

Redland City Council have announced a $327 million budget in which the increase in general rates revenue will be kept at 2.99%. This increase will equate to about 62% a week for a typical owner-occupier household.

Other highlights of the Redland City Council budget includes:

  • $30 million for transport, roads and traffic projects.
  • $3.2 million for other infrastructure projects.
  • $10.2 million for marine and foreshore projects, including canal and breakwater works.
  • $12.7 million for water, waste and wastewater projects.
  • $13.8 million for parks, open space and conservation.
  • $2 million for community and cultural development.
