Step one: Introduction To The Retirement Living Industry


This interactive e-learning module is the first step in the village management industry diploma

Do you want to learn about the history of retirement villages, as well as the specific roles and responsibilities of a successful Village Manager?

You will cover the following:

  • Understand the role of retirement living in Australia
  • Learn about the different types of retirement living offerings
  • Explore the role and responsibilities of a Village Manager.

Step two: Code of Conduct

Code of conduct online training

This 30 minute interactive e-Learning module familiarises participants with the Retirement Living Code of Conduct, enabling them to promote and protect resident rights and provide a benchmark for best practice.

You will cover the following:

  • The purpose and objectives of the Code
  • How the Code will be run
  • Expectations once an operator signs up to the Code.

Step three: Navigating the Retirement Villages Act

Are you looking to enhance your legal understanding of the Retirement Villages Act? This 2–3 hour program will address the Act using the following milestones:

Module 1: Overview of the regulation of retirement villages. This is a general introduction to retirement villages and the regulatory framework.

Module 2: When a resident moves into the village.

Module 3: While a resident lives in the village.

Module 4: When a resident moves out of the village.

Step four: Village Management

This insightful two day course explores:

  • The resident journey
  • Exceptional customer service
  • Working effectively with Committees and Associations
  • Effective dispute resolution
  • Managing budgets and finances
  • Integrated care (Aged Care, Dementia,
    Mental Health, Elder Abuse).

Step five: Choose Your Electives

Select a minimum of two days from the following electives:

  • Leadership in Retirement Living (two days)
  • Retirement Living – Facilities and Asset Management (one day)
  • Retirement Living – Sales and Marketing (one day).

Step six: Assessment

To obtain the Village Management Industry Diploma, participants are required to apply concepts learnt in the courses in an assessment.  There are two pathways for assessment dependent on the electives taken:

Assessment Pathway One

  • Part one – Village Management
  • Part two – Leadership in RL Elective

OR

Assessment Pathway Two

  • Part one – Village Management
  • Part two – Sales and Marketing Elective
  • Facilities and Asset Management Elective.

A pass mark of 70 per cent is required for all assessments

Once successfully completed, coupled with attending the outlined courses, participants receive the Village Management Industry Diploma. 

How long does it take to complete the Village Management Industry Diploma?

Generally it can take between one and two years to complete this industry diploma.

What will I learn in the course?

The industry diploma will progress you through all areas of village management from online modules including Code of Conduct and the legal aspects of the Retirement Villages Act, through to practical classroom-based initiatives on how to manage a retirement village community.

It allows you to explore in greater depth your areas of further interest such as sales and marketing, facilities and asset management through the elective options. The course concludes with one of two assessment options dependents upon which electives were chosen.

Can I use any of my existing industry experience to gain credits for modules?

Yes. If you have relevant industry experience you may receive credits towards some areas of your Village Management Industry Diploma.
