This member briefing will provide an opportunity to hear from the Chair of the Heritage Council, Frank Howarth AM PSM, chairs of the State Heritage Register Committee, Sheridan Burke and chair of the Approvals Committee, Dillon Kombumerri. The Heritage Council of NSW was established by the Heritage Act 1977 and provides independent advice to the Minister on heritage matters in NSW and provides recommendations for listing on the State Heritage Register (SHR). Nine members serve on the Heritage Council and they have broad expertise relating to fields including architecture, heritage conservation, engineering and development. The Council’s operations are supported by several committees including an approvals committee and a SHR committee that makes recommendations for listing places on the SHR. Heritage is always a controversial subject for the development but there are many examples where our industry has conserved significant heritage buildings and created great places.
