Newly minted NSW Premier The Hon. Dominic Perrottet MP has already flagged housing affordability as one of his top priorities, tasking his Treasurer and Planning Minister with developing strategies and approaches to deliver more housing for the families of NSW.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces the Hon. Rob Stokes MP has recently acquired the Transport and Roads portfolio, presenting a unique opportunity to harness these ‘twin drivers’ of economic growth and drive ‘transit oriented development’ offered by Sydney’s expanding light rail and metro network.

In addition, newly appointed Secretary of the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Kiersten Fishburn is making her mark in the portfolio following her impactful role leading the Planning Delivery Unit.

An extensive series of reforms to the NSW planning system are underway:

  • Overhaul of the state and local infrastructure contributions
  • Development of a new housing policy to drive a diverse supply of housing for seniors, young people and families
  • Strategic planning for key sites and regions throughout the state including the Western Sydney Aerotropolis
  • Changes to employment and industrial zones and land uses to accommodate and support rapidly changing industries.
  • What changes and reforms will be pursued in the future? Can the NSW planning system be utilised to support the recovery of NSW after the impacts of COVID-19?

This event will provide an invaluable insight into reforms the Minister and the Department have planned for the future and is critical to those investing or developing property in NSW.
