Eligibility Criteria 

All Development Awards have the following criteria unless otherwise stated:

  • The development must have been completed within the previous three years.
  • Virtual Site Tours may be required for finalists.
  • The development must have begun operating before nominations close.
  • Only WA or national members of the Property Council are eligible to enter.
  • Projects must be located in Western Australia.
  • If the project has previously won an award there must be a significant point of difference for the project to be nominated again.

Types of Development Awards

Best Commercial Development

This award recognises an outstanding new commercial development.

Best Commercial Fit Out or Redevelopment

This award recognises an outstanding refurbishment of commercial office space or commercial fit out. Nominations can include multiple floors or part of a floor.

Best Retail Development or Redevelopment

This award recognises an outstanding new retail development or redevelopment. Nominations can include newly built wings of existing retail developments.

Best Retail Fit Out or Refurbishment

This award recognises an outstanding fit out or refurbishment of a single store or small-scale refurbishment project within a retail centre.

Best Master Planned Community

This award recognises an outstanding master planned community, excluding master planned apartment-only communities. For multi-stage developments, nominations are for completed stages only.

Best Residential Development

This award recognises an outstanding residential development, including master planned apartment communities. This category can include townhouses, long stay residentials, retirement living, build-to-sell, build-to-rent and student accommodation.

Best Industrial Development

This award recognises an outstanding new or refurbished industrial development.

Best Mixed–Use Development

This award recognises an outstanding mixed-use development or precinct, being a development or precinct that comprises at least two of the following substantive uses: office, retail, residential, tourism and leisure, community facilities, aged care, retirement living, logistics/warehouse, distribution or high technology.

Best Leisure or Tourism Development

This award recognises an outstanding new or substantially refurbished leisure or tourism development.

Best Community Infrastructure
This award recognises outstanding new or substantially refurbished community infrastructure. Community Infrastructure can include areas open to the public.

The President’s Award

Awarded at the discretion of the Property Council WA Division President and selected from nominations entered into the 2025 WA Property Awards. The President’s Award exemplifies the spirit of what the property industry can achieve, through outstanding precinct creation and community contribution.

Judging Criteria

Please provide information for each section below. It is up to you to decide what is most important to include in each section.

Planning (40% weighting)

Describe the planning process for the development. This may include information on the:

  • Vision
  • Innovation
  • Placemaking
  • Design

Consider how the planning of the development contributes to the characteristics of the WA property market and its community, business or tenant benefits.

Building (20% weighting)

Describe the construction process for the development, including any challenges and how you overcame them.

Outcomes (40% weighting)

Describe the outcomes of the development. This may include information on:

  • Sustainability
    • This should be above and beyond the standard requirements
  • Adaptability
    • This should be above and beyond the standard requirements
  • Community Benefits
  • Economics
    • Did your financial outcomes meet or exceed your planned objectives?
  • Placemaking
  • Operation
  • Maintenance

Consider how the final development compared to your vision during the planning phase, if it was achieved or how it differed.

Optional Supporting Documentation

You may also supply user testimonials from no more than three stakeholders directly involved with the project, through the planning or building phases, or from an end user of the development.
