Read how Emma is inspiring and advocating for women in the property industry, while helping shape the built environment.
Emma Keller is currently a Principal Urban Economist at Ethos Urban, where she has worked for nearly seven years, however, it is clear that her passion for the industry began with her strong academic background including a Bachelor of Environments (Urban Design & Planning) and a Master of Urban Planning (Urban Development & Planning).

Emma’s professional journey began with Coles in the Network Planning/Location Strategy Team. In this role, she played a critical part in implementing the property strategy for supermarkets, liquor, and fuel. Her responsibilities included planning store locations, expansions, and replacements, as well as forecasting sales for these outlets.

In 2018, Emma transitioned to Ethos Urban as an Urban Economist. She has described this role by saying: “Urban planning tells you what can be somewhere, but urban economics tells you what should be somewhere, based on the market and demographics.”

In her current role, Emma undertakes and manages a diverse range of projects across several sectors, including retail, commercial, residential, health, education, and industrial. Her work consistently demonstrates a commitment to achieving optimal outcomes for both the property industry and the wider community.

Beyond her professional achievements, Emma is an advocate for women in what can be a male-dominated industry. She has been an active participant in the Property Council’s ‘500 Women in Property’ program, which aims to support and advance women in the field. Emma believes in the power of sharing her experiences to guide and mentor other women, helping them navigate the challenges of the industry. Currently, she continues her advocacy work as an active member of the Future Directions Committee, where she contributes to shaping the future of the property industry.
