Diversity and Inclusion
The Property Council is committed to building a diverse and inclusive industry. Together we’re creating, planning and building for generations.
First Nations Professionals Program
The Property Council is on a reconciliation journey and is committed to forging deeper connections with First Nations peoples and support their career development within the property sector.
In 2022 we launched the First Nations Professionals Program, an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples working across the property sector to attend our Property Congress to expand and grow their network, meet and learn from industry leaders and advance their professional development.
In 2024 the program will run again at the Property Congress with the support of our partner GJK Facility Services. This year, we are offering four First Nations Professionals from the property or property related sectors the opportunity to attend our flagship event.
Nominations for the 2024 program have now closed.

The Champions of Change Coalition – Property Group
The Champions of Change Coalition – Property Group was established in 2015 and today includes 24 members who lead some 35,000 employees, in nine jurisdictions.
2020 marks 10 years since eight Australian business leaders came together to form the Male Champions of Change to step up and take action on gender equality. The name change in 2020 from Male Champions of Change to Champions of Change Coalition is a milestone that reflects the growth and natural evolution of the groups work.
In March 2021 a Steering Committee was established to guide governance, the agenda, membership and performance criteria. The Steering Committee is led by Bob Johnston, a founding member of the Property Champions of Change who has worked to progress critical areas of focus over the last six years including normalising flexible work and addressing everyday sexism.
The Champions of Change Property Group pays tribute to the founding Convenor, Carol Schwartz AO, who stepped down from the role after six years in March 2021.
The Property Group meet quarterly to discuss progress in advancing their Action Plans and share insights and challenges in accelerating change. The formation of the Property Group builds on our diversity and inclusion programs and is a public commitment by the Champions to use their individual and collective leadership to advance women’s leadership and gender equality across the industry.
The group’s foundation actions include leading on gender reporting in the property sector, normalising flexibility and caring, growing the talent pool, closing the gender pay gap and building an inclusive industry.

500 Women in Property
500 Women in Property is an initiative of the Property Council’s Diversity and Inclusion Committees throughout Australia and is a sponsorship program. The program aims to accelerate more women into leadership positions in the property industry through sponsorship of high potential executive level and pipeline talent. It involves a personal commitment from Property Council Members (women and men) to identify and champion women in their organisation or business sphere, who they believe would benefit from further networking and professional development opportunities.
500 Women in Property has grown from strength to strength since its launch in 2016, with over 2,500 women participating in the program nationally. The ongoing success of the program relies on the personal commitment of the sponsors as well as the participants to actively engage in the opportunities on offer.
Discounts on Property Congress tickets are available for 500 Women in Property participants and sponsors, find out more here.
