Submission Wrap-upThe Property Council has provided two submissions to the State Government over the last fortnight, providing the industry's position on the review of key State planning documents, and the development of a new State disability plan.Planning Policy ReviewThe Queensland Government's Planning Policy Review has presented a proposed new Planning Regulation, revised State Planning Policy (SPP), and updated State Development Assessment Provisions (SDAP) for industry and community comment.The Property Council's submission has welcomed the draft documents as an important step in the planning reform agenda in Queensland, which aims to deliver improved outcomes for all stakeholders.Along with providing direct feedback across a range measures, the Property Council called for the new Planning Act to accompanied by a five-year implementation plan for local governments, which would provide them with the finances and resources necessary to ensure a smooth and positive transition to the new framework.The final Planning Regulation, SPP and SDAP will be made by the Government at the commencement of the Planning Act on 3 July 2017.The submission can be accessed here.Towards an all abilities Queensland consultation paperThe Queensland Government's Towards an all abilities Queensland consultation paper is the first step in the development of a new State disability plan. The Property Council responded to measures canvassed within the paper to increase the supply of accessible housing.The Property Council has been a long-standing supporter of livable housing design and a contributor to the development of the livable housing design guidelines. As a major industry supporter of Livable Housing Australia (LHA), the Property Council champions safer, more comfortable and easier to access homes for everybody at all stages of life.However, the Property Council contends that mandating livable housing design standards in Queensland would:Significantly increase the cost of new housing, impacting the most vulnerable in our community,Be impossible to achieve in a large number of lots, requiring a complex and costly exemption framework, andResult in a 'one-size fits all' housing outcomeThe Property Council's submission to the Towards an all Abilities Queensland consultation paper can be accessed here.
