Housing Strategy Discussion Paper submission
The Property Council has provided input into the Queensland Government's Working Together for Better Housing and Sustainable Communities discussion paper, which is the first step in the development of the Government's comprehensive Housing Strategy.
The Discussion Paper acknowledges that the State Government plays a critical role in influencing the housing market through planning legislation, industry regulation, taxes and charges and infrastructure funding provision. The Property Council's submission outlines opportunities for the State Government to utilise these policy levers to enable the private sector to produce solutions to Queensland's housing challenges.
Land supply must be the fundamental consideration in the Government's response to the issue of housing affordability. However, the Property Council's submission provides a range of policy proposals for the Government to consider including measures to increase the supply of age appropriate housing and the removal of State property taxes.
