Industry responds to review of koala initiatives

The Property Council has provided a submission to the Queensland Government's review of koala programs and initiatives, outlining that the current complex and overlapping framework of environment protection is not having its desired effect.

While outlining the Property Council's support for the Government's commitment to protect the koala in South East Queensland, the submission provided clarity on how the Federal, State and Local protections represent a significant regulatory burden without tangible environmental benefit.

The Property Council has called on a streamlining of existing development assessment and koala protection initiatives by aligning government policy settings and statutory requirements.

All submissions will be provided to the expert panel that has been established by the Queensland Government to provide recommendations on ways to better protect koalas in South East Queensland.
