Home Campaigns and Submissions Beyond the Visa Cap: Why Restricting International Students Won’t Solve Australia’s Housing Crisis

The Student Accommodation Council’s latest report examines the impact the Government’s proposed international student visa caps will have on Australia’s metropolitan rental markets.

The report finds that restricting student visas to 270,000 per year will only reduce metropolitan rents by under 1 per cent – saving renters around $5:00 a week.

The report also find that purpose-built student accommodation development has kept pace with the growth of international students in Australia, providing critical housing choice for people studying in Australia.
