Data from the Property Council’s latest occupancy survey revealed that occupancy continued to increase around Australia as workers continue to return to the office.
The November survey recorded Perth offices at 80 per cent occupancy in November, the highest level since November 2020. Meanwhile, Melbourne’s occupancy rates jumped 12 per cent to 57 per cent this month, the highest level since the pandemic began. Sydney recorded its highest occupancy figure since June 2021, with occupancy rising to 59 per cent, while Brisbane increased from 64 to 67 percent and Adelaide remained strong at 74 per cent. Canberra recorded the lowest occupancy level in the country, dipping from 57 to 52 per cent.
Occupancy on peak days reached 88 per cent in Perth, 77 per cent in Adelaide and 75 per cent in Melbourne, with Sydney peaks at 74 per cent, Brisbane at 73 per cent and Canberra at 67 per cent.
Property Council Chief Executive Ken Morrison said it was pleasing to see strong occupancy in Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide during November. “With warmer weather now upon us, the continuing recovery of our CBDs bodes well”, Mr Morrison said. “However, more needs to be done and we cannot rest on our laurels as we head into the New Year”.
