The state government has announced updates to the South East Queensland koala habitat protection framework.
Updates to the framework will see a new web-based koala habitat clearing notification system introduced to help landholders identify protected koala habitats and allowing the government to monitor trends over time.
The 2020 South East Queensland koala regulations were introduced without prior notice or consultation to avoid pre-emptive clearing, following this the state government did a Post Implementation Review in 2023 to review the effectiveness of the regulations and identify potential changes to the regulations.
