The Queensland Government has introduced the Planning (Social Impact and Community Benefit) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2025 (the Bill) to Parliament.
The Bill includes proposed changes to planning laws to facilitate the delivery of venues for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
It also includes proposed amendments to assist the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority (GIICA) deliver venues and associated Games infrastructure.
Under the Bill a Games Leadership Group will be established to provide oversight and coordination of Games entities.
The Bill has now been referred to the State Development, Infrastructure and Works Committee who will report back to Parliament by 20 June 2025.
Proposed changes to renewable energy development
Part of the Bill also proposes changes to the Planning Act 2016 (Planning Act) to introduce a community benefit system into the Queensland planning framework for renewable energy development.
This includes Development Assessment Rules (DA Rules) that are open for consultation until 3 June 2025.
