On Thursday 28 November the Queensland Government passed the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games Arrangements and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024. The bill contained an array of changes that are relevant to Property Council members.
Most notably the bill amends Planning Act 2016 and the Planning and Environment Court Act 2016 to clarify that the Planning Minister may amend or repeal a State Facilitated Development (SFD) declaration.
The changes are designed to align with other assessment pathways such as Ministerial Infrastructure Designations.
Other changes included as part of the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games Arrangements and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2024 include:
- Introduces ‘Right to Entry’ laws, including re-instating 24 hr notice periods for worksites
- Establishes the Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority.
