In 2022 Grand Plaza in Browns Plains was awarded the accolade of 2022 Queensland Retail Property of the Year. This high honour was received after Vicinity Centres formed a strategic partnership with Wing (an Alphabet company) for a drone delivery service off the rooftop of Grand Plaza, a world first.
This opportunity allowed the centre to grow its online capabilities and expand its omnichannel retail space – enabling retailers in the centre to tap into this quick, cost-effective and low emissions drone delivery. Impressively this safe, easy and reliable delivery of goods can deliver loads of up to 1.05kg directly to customers within a 10km radius of the centre.
Now almost a year on, revisiting the program shows its continued success as Vicinity Centres and Wing focus on helping retailers use physical stores and their shopping centre network to get retailer’s products in customer hands quicker and more efficiently.
Wing continues to operate from the rooftop of Grand Plaza in an expanded area. Starting with a good working relationship and through clear and concise communications this success story is underlined by a constructive partnership.
Customers are always looking for new and convenient ways to receive their goods in a bid to shop in ways that suit their needs. This joint partnership responds to the evolving ways that customers shop and is an important avenue that allows Vicinity Centres to support their retailers to adapt in ways that suit them and their customers.
Showcasing success stories like this is at the heart of the Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards.
