The government has introduced a bill to establish and independent delivery authority for the Olympic Games.

On Wednesday 17 April, the Queensland Government introduced a bill to Parliament to establish an independent delivery authority to deliver new and upgraded venues for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority will deliver new and upgraded venues to be used for the games.

The authority will be overseen by an Independent Board and is set to be established by mid-year including the appointment of an interim CEO, with recruitment for the Board to then begin.

There will be up to seven independent directors on the Board, including the chair. They will be recommended for appointment by the chief executives of the games delivery partners.

As part of its role, the Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority will be legislatively required to develop a transport and mobility strategy within the first 18 months of its establishment in consultation with the games delivery partners.

The Bill to establish the independent authority has been referred to the Housing, Big Build and Manufacturing Committee, the committee is expected to table their report next month.Â
