First Home Owner Grant increase

The Queensland Government announced a doubling of the First Home Owner Grant

On Sunday the Queensland Government announced a $15,000 increase to the state’s First Home Owner Grant scheme.

This brings the total grant up to $30,000 on eligible first home purchases and came into effect for transactions entered into on or after Monday, 20 November.  

The Grant applies to buying or building a new home valued less than $750,000.

To be eligible for the grant the applicant must be: 

  • 18 years and older
  • And must not have owned a residential property in Australia before 

The property must:  

  • Not have been lived in or sold as a place of residence at the time of completion.
  • Could be a
  • House, unit, duplex or townhouse; or a granny flat built on a relative’s land
  • Home that has been moved from one site to another (including kit homes or modular homes)
  • Home in a manufactured home park
  • Substantially renovated home
  • Must be one of the following eligible transactions
  • New home
  • Off-the-plan purchase
  • Substantial renovation
  • Contract to build 
  • Owner-builder

The Property Council anticipates the Queensland Government will release its first Housing Plan in the coming weeks, with further policy announcements expected. In the meantime, the Property Council continues to work with all levels of Government in relation to boosting much needed housing supply across Queensland.
