Brisbane’s $275 billion future economy

Brisbane's economy is expected to grow to $275 billion by 2031 according to the latest Brisbane Economic Development Agency report.

On Thursday 2 May 2024, the Brisbane Economic Development Agency released its inaugural State of the City report in partnership with Deloitte Access Economics.

The report forecasts Brisbane’s economy to grow by 68 per cent to $275 billion in 2041 – the report attributes this growth potential to Brisbane’s ability to commercialise emerging industries.

Brisbane’s fast-growing working-age population which has increased by 7.7 per cent compared to an average of 4 per cent across other major cities.

Since 2013, Brisbane’s population has grown faster than any other major Australian capital city, jumping by 21 per cent -Brisbane’s net internal migration has outpaced other major capitals for 21 consecutive quarters.
