Amendments to Queensland’s Environmental Offsets Policy implemented

The report makes six recommendations to Council.

The state government has announced that amendments to Queensland’s Environmental Offsets Policy have been implemented with the aim of clarifying and simplifying requirements, increasing readability and improving consistency with other legislation.

Additionally the changes provide greater recognition of First Nations peoples, clarify processes to legally secure advanced offset areas and enable the co-location of multiple offset requirements where an improved conservation outcome can be achieved.

A new expressions of interest process has been published on the government’s website as well as in-demand offset tool with the aim of assisting landholders make more informed decisions.

The online platforms can be used to search for locations where environmental offsets are needed.
