Yugo Adelaide City, a Global Student Accommodation (GSA) development, has officially welcomed students from all around the world.

Yugo, the first globally branded student housing provider, will run the building, which will provide a genuinely distinct living experience to 725 domestic and foreign students in Adelaide.

Yugo Adelaide City, at a little over 118m tall and 36 floors, is one of Adelaide’s tallest buildings, providing panoramic views of the city.

The facility will act as a centre to enrich the student experience throughout their academic years, including huge social rooms, study spaces, outdoor terraces, a gym, cinema, community kitchens, and lounges.

Yugo Adelaide City is in a prime location, opposite the universities of South Australia and Adelaide, and startup hub and business incubator Lot Fourteen.

According to Study Adelaide, South Australia has welcomed the return of almost 7000 foreign students since Australia’s borders opened to international students in mid-December. Yugo Adelaide City has also witnessed strong demand in the newly built building, with 90 per cent of students coming from abroad.

Tim Klitscher, Managing Director APAC, said Yugo was proud to welcome students to this newly built, flagship Yugo property.

“At Yugo, we’re on a mission to create the world’s most innovative student housing solutions. Our diverse experience and knowledge allows us not only to be connected across different geographies but also helps provide insights from the biggest markets worldwide,” he said.

“As the first and only global student housing brand and operator, Yugo brings more than 30 years’ of experience, and we’re confident Yugo Adelaide City will not only meet but exceed our students’ needs.”

Yugo is a founding member of the Property Council’s newly formed Student Accommodation Council, specifically created to represent and advocate for Australia’s Purpose Built Student Accommodation sector.

Travis Harkness, GSA Building Director, oversaw the development of Yugo Adelaide City. It is GSA’s sixth student housing complex in Australia, following sites in Perth and Melbourne.

“I am delighted to have welcomed the first students to Yugo Adelaide City,” he said.

“It’s a milestone that I am incredibly proud of and testament to the team that have worked tirelessly through the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver this $110m development ahead of programme and under budget.

“Globally, student housing has proven to be a resilient sector throughout the turbulence of the past few years, underpinned by continuing growing demand for higher education globally and a strong preference for in-person learning. We see this across Australia and here in Adelaide, where students are attracted by the economic and cultural opportunities and world-leading status of our universities.”

Carla Millaud, a 23-year-old Marine Engineering student, arrived in Adelaide from Paris in February and moved into Yugo Adelaide City in May. Millaud enjoys living in the city centre, among the colleges and within walking distance of her office.

“The view is incredible, and the facilities are excellent. There are so many rooms to choose from with attractive prices,” she said.

Yugo Adelaide City was designed by architecture firm Rothelowman, project managed by Neoscape and built by Synergy Construct.
