Transforming Sydney’s Tattersalls Club

Plans for a 49-storey mixed-use tower on Pitt Street have been lodged with the City of Sydney as the revitalisation of the City Tattersalls Club takes shape.

The concept development application for the club, located at 194-204 Pitt Street, include plans to redevelop the 123-year-old club while protecting heritage values.

Architect firm fjmt has prepared an indicative design scheme for a four-star boutique hotel with around 100 rooms and a residential tower with 246 apartments.

According to City Tattersalls Club chief executive officer Marcelo Veloz, the Club and developer ICD Property went back to the drawing board last year after an earlier development application was declined.

The process of rethinking the proposal, while carrying out extensive consultation with stakeholder groups on traffic impact, heritage conservation and planning, has helped all parties develop a more considered submission, Veloz says.

“The proposed internal reconstruction of the Club and the new hotel and residential tower for this site will be spectacular and a fitting innovative addition to the heart of our city,” Veloz says.

The development marks ICD Property’s first venture into Sydney after developing several projects in Melbourne including residential high-rise Eq Tower, ongoing land subdivision community Gen Fyansford in Geelong, as well as 65 Federal Street, a mixed-use tower in Auckland.

“The activation along the ground floor with modern restaurants and bars will bring people together to socialise, while the hotel offering complements Sydney’s booming tourism market,” says ICD Property’s deputy managing director Matthew Khoo.

ICD has also considered “how to best integrate the building into its neighbouring surroundings to ensure the highest quality outcome not only for the site but the entire surrounding area,” Khoo adds.

Following concept DA consent, a design excellence competition will follow.
