After being nominated for the Property Council’s Tasmanian Future Leader of the Year Award in 2019, Erin Rockliffe was challenged to overcome self-doubt and reflect on her rapid career progress.
“When documenting my career on paper through the nomination process, I remembered that where I am now was once an early career goal, and too often we are so busy working without taking the time to acknowledge and celebrate our own achievements,” Rockliffe, an associate architect with Xsquared Architects, says.
“After winning the award I’ve since realised the value in promoting emerging talent. Recognition early in your career can really give a much-needed boost and provides other young people with the confidence to go further with their careers.”
The Property Council’s Future Leader of the Year Award has been designed to do just that – to acknowledge and promote the positive contributions of emerging property professionals.
Rebecca Ellston, the Property Council’s Tasmanian executive director, agrees.
“It is so important that we nurture and encourage the next generation of property leaders, who bring with them a great deal of passion for an industry that contributes so much to the Tasmanian economy and shapes the places we all live.
“The Future Leader Award is an important way we can shine the spotlight on the outstanding commitment of our young leaders and promote their unique views, voices and contribution to our great industry.”
The 2021 award has been revamped to allow both self-nominations and third-party nominations.
With a prize pack that includes $1,000 of professional development through the Property Council Academy, a ticket to The Property Congress in Hobart and a yearly pass to Tasmanian events, the award will also promote continual career growth with ongoing networking opportunities.
“The Property Council continues our commitment to attracting and developing talent and this local award allows us to highlight an exceptional young professional who is leading positive change in the Tasmanian property industry,” Ellston adds.
Rockliffe says the award “recognises that you are actually having a positive impact”.
“It was wonderful affirmation for me that the work I do matters in shaping our built form. But remember, nothing in property happens with just one set of hands”, she adds humbly.
The Future Leader of the Year nominations close this Friday 5 November at 5:00PM. Nominations can be made by any members of the Property Council’s Tasmanian division. Download the nomination form and find out more about the process on the nomination portal.
