New housing on church land approved in Wakerley

The Property Council has long advocated for better utilisation of church land for housing.

The State Government has approved an application from the Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane for 44 build-to-rent homes in Wakerley.

The build-to-rent scheme will be managed by a Community Housing Provider, and is well located with access to schools, public transport, community spaces and local retail.

The approval follows ongoing industry advocacy for better use of underutilised church and community land to deliver much needed affordable housing.

The Property Council has long supported the advocacy of industry partners for better utilisation of church, sporting and community land, as well as unlocking local and state government land for housing.

This project is a positive example of the additional housing that can be delivered through partnerships between industry, government and community and faith-based organisations.

The Property Council has also been a proponent of growing Queensland’s Build-to-rent sector as a key way of adding new housing supply and increasing diversity of product in our housing market.
