The world’s most sustainable shopping centre, a visionary co-working precinct and an ‘office of the future’ are among the winners of the 2021 Rider Levett Bucknall State and Territory Development of the Year awards.
The awards announced last week are a prestigious precursor to the national Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards, being held in Sydney later this year.
Now in its 39th year in partnership with RLB, the awards program showcases innovative projects, pioneering solutions and inspiring leadership in Australia’s property industry.
Peter Tulla’s RLB’s Oceania chairman, says this year’s winners showcase visionary, adaptive design, long-term sustainable outcomes, and inclusive planning.
“The number and calibre of entries in this year’s awards program was unparalleled,” Tulla says.
New South Wales | Sixty Martin Place by Gwynvill and Investa Commercial Property Fund
Sixty Martin Place was the only Premium-grade, commercial development completed in Sydney’s CBD in 2019. Designed by HASSELL and constructed by Lendlease, the 33-storey tower is a showpiece for sustainable design, building efficiency and occupant experience. A dynamic addition to Sydney’s CBD, the building’s impressive future-focused design and technology work together to deliver a workplace that embraces its internal and external environments.
Queensland| COHORT by Economic Development Queensland (Department of State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning)
COHORT opened in May 2019 in the heart of the 200-hectare Gold Coast health and knowledge precinct in Southport and has been expanded twice to become one of the largest innovation spaces in Queensland. A design collaboration between Space Cubed Design Studio and ArkLAB, and constructed by Quadric, COHORT delivers a 2,500 sqm space that promotes collaboration and interaction, enhanced by an integrated management model.
Australian Capital Territory | Greenway Views by LDK
Greenway Views has transformed a series of former government offices in Tuggeranong into a sustainable, mixed-use retirement community. Completed in late 2019, it comprises 210 apartments within three different purpose-built blocks. The development features common area amenities, medical rooms, cafés, a bar, gym, beauty salon, restaurant, a fully equipped commercial kitchen, education facilities, theatre, landscaping, new roads and playgrounds.
Victoria | Burwood Brickworks Shopping Centre by Frasers Property Australia
Burwood Bricks Shopping Centre is a development without precedent. Designed by NH Architecture and delivered by Hacer Group, the centre covers approximately 13,000 sqm of NLA and is anchored by Woolworths and home to Dan Murphy’s, Reading Cinemas and around 35 specialty tenancies. It also includes Australia’s first shopping centre rooftop urban farm.
Western Australia | Claremont on the Park by DevelopmentWA
Claremont on the Park reinvigorated ageing community infrastructure and championed the benefits of increased density in established suburbs. The transport-oriented community has successfully transformed an under-used sporting facility into a vibrant activity centre. There are also new homes, retail and commercial offerings, and cultural and community spaces.
South Australia | Calvary Adelaide Hospital, delivered by Commercial & General for owner Dexus Healthcare Property Fund
The state-of-the-art Calvary Adelaide Hospital, delivered by Commercial & General for owner Dexus Healthcare Property Fund, replaces two existing hospital facilities, one of which had been in operation for more than 100 years. The 12-storey hospital provides capacity for 344 overnight beds, 62 day-patient beds and a 24/7 emergency department. It also features consulting suites, medical imaging, pathology, 16 operating theatres, four procedure rooms, two cath labs, and staff and administrative amenities.
All development finalists are in the running for the industry’s most coveted prize – the Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award. The Property Council of Australia/Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation & Excellence Awards will be held in September.
