Secret star shines

Property boasts some of Australia’s best marketing professionals working behind-the-scenes to share our industry’s success stories. Yardi’s Nina Feldman is one of these secret stars and we asked her why she loves her job…

Nina Feldman, Marketing Manager – APAC, Yardi

Three words to describe my job… Hectic, fun and evolving.

When I explain my role to people outside the property industry, I say… Real estate is a huge world. It’s only when you’re in it that you realise the detail and data that underpins every decision, across every single market.120521 - Story 4 - Secret Stars - Nina Feldman

For a business to operate efficiently, with access to real time, accurate data and the right collaboration tools for its people, it needs the right technology. That’s where Yardi comes in.

We’ve specialised in software solutions for real estate for nearly 40 years, and I help clients and clients-to-be to understand our solutions, and how they can help. Sometimes that involves creating events, other times sponsoring industry associations – the most exciting of these is Property Congress – or research pieces like recent PropTech report. No two days are ever the same, and that’s why I love my role.

My three daily work essentials are… Number one is coffee. Nothing happens without that! Two is calm surrounds. Creating these during WFH was a challenge! And third is my webcam. I seem to spend more time collaborating now than ever before, and while Zoom fatigue can be real, putting a face to a name or a voice is still really important to me.

The biggest lesson I’ve learnt in my role… There’s no substitute for hard work and a positive attitude. It sounds cliché but it’s true. A big part of my success is working with wider teams, and I need them to know I genuinely care about what we’re doing and what they want to achieve.

My career motivation is… The next goal, or the next thing I want to achieve! There’s never been a time where I think ‘I can stop now and rest on my laurels’.

My advice to others considering a career in my field… First of all, that property is interesting. Nothing in our lives happens without it – it’s the core for everyone, whether or not they realise it!

Then, that marketing within the industry has unique challenges – and that’s what makes it fun. It’s constantly changing, whether that’s by location or by vertical. You can try to anticipate what’s ahead, but ultimately working in this industry requires a degree of mental agility and acuity that challenges me every day.

The building or project that embodies what I do… My favourite project – and this is a tough one – is our recent Yardi/Property Council of Australia PropTech Report. This collaborative project involved everything from creating and analysing the questions and responses to running events to share the results. I’m so proud of the report and already looking ahead to next year’s.

The inspirational quote I live by… Never stop learning, doing new things or having fun. This resonates with me both professionally and personally.

This year I’ll be… Continuing my home renovations (dreaming of one day being on The Block…) and spending more time seeing friends and colleagues face to face.
