Darren Bilsborough joins Meinhardt Australia as a new director, Angela Emslie is appointed independent chair of build-to-rent developer Assemble and Hayball announces Sarah Buckeridge as co-managing director.

Darren Bilsborough has joined engineering consultancy Meinhardt Australia as building services director for Australia and New Zealand. Bilsborough has held board positions with the Green Building Council of Australia and the South Australian division of the Property Council. He was adjunct professor of sustainability at Western Australia’s Curtin University, and has held roles in practice management, design, workplace strategy, engineering, urban governance, infrastructure, precinct planning, placemaking and integrated design management.

Build-to-rent developer, Assemble, has announced its newly formed board, with former HESTA board chair, Angela Emslie, appointed as independent chairperson. The board comprises five business leaders: Emslie; Kris Daff, the developer’s managing director; Graham Hodges (former ANZ deputy CEO); Bevan Towning (AustralianSuper head of property) and Malcolm Skene (AustralianSuper investment director). Assemble has the largest portfolio of privately-funded mixed-income rental housing in Australia’s history. This will inject $1 billion of construction activity into Victoria’s economy alone, creating 8,000 construction jobs, with a project value of $3 billion. New investor, AustralianSuper, has a significant presence on the board, representing the nation’s largest superannuation fund’s cornerstone investment in the operating business in June this year.

Architectural and design practice Hayball has announced a change in leadership. Sarah Buckeridge will join current managing director, Tom Jordan, who has been in the role since 2008, as co-managing director. Buckeridge and Jordan bring together architectural and urban design expertise, research and business strategy. Buckeridge joined Hayball as a graduate architect and was promoted to director in 2007, the youngest and first woman to join the senior leadership team at the time.

Allen Jack+Cottier Architects welcomes Dua Green as a newly appointed director in its Sydney studio. Since joining the practice in 2007, Green has been involved in lighthouse projects across the education and student accommodation sectors, including the Judith Poole Multi-Sports Hall for Abbotsleigh School in Sydney, which won a World Sport in Architecture Award in 2018.

The NSW Government’s body, NSW Circular, has hired chief circular economist Dr Kar Mei Tang. The former executive director for circular economy with the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment and the NSW Environment Protection Authority, Tang has also worked at SMARTS (now a division of Nasdaq OMX) and the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre.

The Green Building Council of Australia’s senior manager for Green Star Solutions, Nicole Sullivan, is moving to sustainability consultant thinkstep-anz. Sullivan, who starts in December as head of strategy and impact Australia, was instrumental in developing Green Star’s responsible products framework and developed Environmental Product Declaration for BlueScope products.

Brad Schultz is joining Buildings Alive as head of customer engagement. Schulz, who will lead business development and services, was most recently at VAE. He’s also worked with Honeywell and Beyond Zero Emissions.

Urban planning firm RobertsDay has been acquired by global engineering consultancy Hatch. In the move, Sydney-based Ayeh Haji and Tom Payne have been promoted: Payne to senior urban and place planner and Haji to senior urban designer. Justin Borgueta has been promoted to senior urban designer in the Melbourne studio, alongside Emma van der Linden in Perth and Alex Remmelt in Brisbane.

The Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia has three new board members: Julie Morgan (executive director of environment and sustainability at Transport for NSW), Glenn Hedges (sustainability and energy manager with CPB Contractors) and Fin Robertson (director of Sustainable Asset Strategies). Monique Cornish, Marko Misko and Ben Schnitzerling all step down after finishing their board terms with ISCA.

After four years with the Property Council in South Australia, including two as deputy executive director, Torie Brown has taken up a new role as senior policy advisor with the South Australian Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

Knight Frank has bolstered its agency team in Adelaide with the appointment of a new head of industrial for South Australia. David Ludlow has moved to Knight Frank from his previous role as head of industrial at JLL, where he was responsible for sale and lease transactions within the SA industrial market. Prior to that he worked in the industrial sector for CBRE and Colliers International.
