Jonathan Callaghan will step down from Investa, Kim Barnes joins Charter Hall and CBRE appoints Sameer Chopra to head its Pacific research team.
Jonathan Callaghan will be stepping down from Investa after five years as CEO and more than 14 years with the company. During Callaghan’s tenure, Investa’s flagship investment vehicle, Investa Commercial Property Fund, has been Australia’s top performing wholesale office fund on the MSCI/Mercer Australia Core Wholesale Property Fund Index over multiple time horizons. Callaghan also oversaw the privatisation of Investa Office Fund and Oxford Properties’ purchase of 50 per cent of the Investa management platform last November. Callaghan has said it is “the right time for a new CEO to step in and lead the business through this next phase”. The recruitment process for a new CEO is underway.
Kim Barnes has joined Charter Hall as wholesale investor relations executive. Barnes spent four years with AMP Capital, most recently as investor relations and communications manager. She also spent eight years with J.P. Morgan Chase in Australia, Hong Kong, and Zurich. Barnes will report to Charter Hall’s head of capital and product development, Adrian Harrington.
CBRE has appointed Sameer Chopra to head its Pacific research team and spearhead ESG research for the Asia Pacific region – ringing in a new direction for the firm’s research division. Chopra is currently head of Australian research at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and his career spans senior roles at Deutsche Bank and Accenture. He will commence his new position in July. In tandem with Chopra’s appointment, CBRE has recruited Sass J-Baleh as head of NSW research and Australian industrial and logistics research. J-Baleh will join the firm from JLL where she was the national director of industrial and logistics research, following prior roles at Colliers, Urbis and Mainfreight. Other new CBRE research recruits include senior research analyst Nick Baring, GIS mapping analyst Simon Georges and research analyst James Boseley, all based in Melbourne, and research analyst Gus McConnell in Brisbane.
Former CEO of the Committee for Sydney Tim Williams is joining global architecture practice Grimshaw as its cities advocate. Williams, who was former head of cities for ARUP, will lead the Sydney studio’s new ‘Thinkers in Residence’ program.
CBRE has acquired Australian infrastructure and development services firm Thelem Consulting. The company’s roster includes the new Sydney Fish Market, Quay Quarter Precinct, the Waterloo Redevelopment Project and the Cairns Convention Centre redevelopment. Thelem’s 40-strong team will join CBRE’s existing project management group, which grows to 165-plus. Thelem’s chief executive officer Justin Woodcock will assume a national role at CBRE as director of development and infrastructure, reporting to Scott Jackman, managing director of CBRE’s Pacific project management business.
Nicole Wilson has joined Arcadia Landscape Architecture as a principal. Wilson, most recently a senior associate with Scott Carver, brings 15 years of experience to the role and will be working alongside Alex Longley, Michael Barnett and Chris Tidswell in the Sydney-based firm.
Hames Sharley has made several recent promotions. Elise Miles Simonovski, Mason Harrison, Nicholas Temov and Michael Wright have all been promoted to senior associates. Hames Sharley also welcomes four new associates to the leadership team: Kelly Tredwell, Simone Farrall, Ryan Dunham and Rebecca Spencer.
