The Australian Institute of Architects CEO, Julia Cambage, steps down, the UDIA appoints Intrapac Property’s COO Maxwell Shifman as its new national president and Michelle Cramer joins GHD.

Julia Cambage, chief executive officer of the Australian Institute of Architects, has resigned after three years in the role. Cambage was appointed in January 2019 and during her time drove a business transformation process across nine sites, amplifying the impact of Australia’s peak body for architecture. Chief financial officer and company secretary Barry Whitmore will take over as acting CEO while recruitment is underway.

The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) national council has appointed Maxwell Shifman as its new national president. Shifman, who will steer the organisation over the next two-year term, has served as vice president for the past three years. As chief operating officer of Intrapac Property, one of Australia’s largest private developers, Shifman’s experience covers large-scale master-planned subdivisions, integrated townhouse developments and apartments. Shifman takes the reins from Simon Basheer who held senior roles with Lendlease for 25 years before retiring in December 2020 to work in advisory roles for the industry.

Urban designer and architect Michelle Cramer has been appointed future communities lead for professional services company GHD in Australia. Cramer joins GHD having held senior city-shaping roles with Lendlease, Hames Sharley, Woods Bagot and the City of Sydney. Most recently, she worked on the Central Precinct Renewal Program with Transport for NSW. Cramer is a specialist advisor to UNICEF’s Child-Friendly Cities Initiative.

John “Harry” Butler has stepped down as chief financial officer of security business, Certis Security Australia (SNP Security). Current group financial controller Rajat Dhall is acting as interim CFO. Butler will continue to work with Certis on a consultancy basis.

CBRE has appointed Gerry Leyden to co-lead its office tenant representation business Queensland alongside Boyd Kildey. The pair will grow CBRE’s advisory and transaction services for the office occupier business as workplace strategies evolve in the wake of COVID-19. Leyden is currently a senior director in CBRE’s Queensland office leasing team.

Tim Armstrong is Knight Frank’s new global head of occupier strategy and solutions. Knight Frank has enjoyed a three-year growth trajectory during which time the agency has doubled the size of real estate portfolios it manages on behalf of clients. Armstrong, who joined Knight Frank in Australia in 2007 but is now based in Singapore, takes over from William Beardmore-Gray who steps into the role of senior partner and group chair in April.
