In a major step toward modernising and streamlining the property sector’s approach to technology, the Property Council of Australia has officially launched its Technology and AI Roundtable.

The Roundtable is the Property Council’s first forum dedicated to exploring technology and its role in the property industry. Designed to drive collaboration and alignment across the industry, the initiative aims to address the complexities of technology adoption and the integration of artificial intelligence in property management and development.

The Technology and AI Roundtable, led by Chris Wild, Director of Asset Technology and AI at the Property Council, represents a critical step in driving digital transformation across the property sector.

“Our goal is to ensure the industry integrates technology and AI as core enablers of operational efficiency, sustainability, and resilience,” Mr Wild said. “The Roundtable is designed to foster collaboration, enabling us to align on key challenges like data governance, privacy, and infrastructure readiness.”

“As we navigate an era of increasing automation and AI-driven decision-making, we must prioritise robust frameworks for data management and technology adoption. These efforts will not only enhance operational outcomes but also position the sector as a global leader in innovation,” he added.

“By leveraging collective expertise, the Roundtable is building a pathway for the property sector to operate more sustainably and efficiently. Together, we’re not just addressing today’s challenges—we’re creating opportunities for a future defined by innovation, adaptability, and impact.”

The initiative comes at a time when the sector’s pace of operationalising technology varies widely. While some organisations are rapidly integrating data-driven solutions, others are still grappling with foundational challenges like data governance and infrastructure readiness.

The Roundtable aims to increase non-competitive alignment, ensuring that shared innovations deliver sector-wide benefits and help bridge the gap across varying levels of technological maturity.

Paul Bailey, Head of Digital and Data at Charter Hall, has been appointed as the inaugural Chair of the Roundtable. With over 17 years of experience driving digital and data transformation in the property sector, Mr Bailey brings a wealth of expertise to this role.

“Technology, data, and AI are reshaping the property industry. Through collaboration, we can unlock their full potential to deliver meaningful impact,” Mr Bailey said.

“The Roundtable will address shared challenges such as digital literacy, data governance, sustainability, and cyber security. By bringing senior leaders together, it will foster collaboration and position the property sector as a leader in resilience, operational excellence, and sustainability.”

“By championing advancements in digital innovation, technology, data, and AI, the Roundtable will elevate the Australian property industry as a global leader, attracting investment and setting a benchmark for excellence in the built environment.”

Property Council Group Executive Policy and Advocacy Matthew Kandelaars said the launch of the Technology and AI Roundtable signals a clear intent to align the sector’s approach to innovation.

“Investing in technology is like building: a strong foundation is key to growth,” Mr Kandelaars said.

“The Roundtable aims to lay these foundations for Australia’s property industry to thrive in the new and evolving technological landscape,” he said.

The Roundtable will have 16 founding members from across all property types, including office, residential, industrial and retail.
