At the recent Keeping up with Coast lunch on the Gold Coast, the Property Council revealed Sarah Ledingham, a Griffith University student, as the 2023 Peter Trathen Scholarship recipient, aspiring to pursue a career in property.

Sarah described the scholarship as “a once in a lifetime opportunity which will provide me access to valuable information and connections within the property industry. I am especially thankful to Mark Burow and the Property Council of Australia for making this possible”.

Established in honor of Peter Trathen’s significant contributions to both the property industry and the Gold Coast business community, the Peter Trathen Scholarship pays tribute to his impactful legacy. Peter, who relocated from South Africa to the Gold Coast in 1993, played a pivotal role in the development of the Brisbane casino during his tenure at Jupiters. Later, in 2000, he spearheaded the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre project.

An avid supporter of education and ongoing professional growth, Peter actively encouraged young individuals to pursue and nurture careers within the property sector. Unfortunately, Peter succumbed to melanoma, a severe form of skin cancer, on July 12, 2010.

This scholarship aims to support an outstanding undergraduate student in real estate property development within the Griffith Business School, granting them access to $5,000 worth of Property Council membership, event participation, professional development courses, and industry publications.

At the Property Congress last week, The Property Council of Australia and Chief Executive Women announced a Woman Leader in Property Scholarship aimed at bolstering women in senior management roles in the property industry.

The scholarship offers a chance for a woman in a leadership role to undertake advanced professional development including a $25,000 grant, covering both tuition expenses and a travel allowance.

Applications are now open via an online portal and close 22nd October.
