Peter Huddle has joined Vicinity Centres as its new chief operating officer. Huddle spent 18 years at Westfield in shopping centre management, development and as its asset general manager. Most recently he was chief operating officer of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield in the United States, following the acquisition of Westfield by Unibail Rodamco in 2018. Huddle led the team responsible for the World Trade Center redevelopment in New York City, Century City in Los Angeles, UTC in San Diego and Valley Fair in San Jose, California. This is a newly-created role within Vicinity Centres’ executive team and follows an international search. Huddle will commence on 1 April.
Real estate advisory and investment firm Stamford Capital Australia has expanded into the Victorian market. Henry Buwalda has been appointed director of the Melbourne office. Buwalda has more than 35 years of banking and property experience and has led teams within major banks including NAB, Bendigo Bank and Adelaide Bank. Formed in 2010 by Domenic Lo Surdo, Stamford Capital now has offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne. Domenic Lo Surdo and Henry Buwalda are pictured at the top of this article.
Newcastle-based property and infrastructure development Monteath & Powys has appointed Geoff Rock as its new director and development services manager. Rock has spent the last 16 years with Rio Tinto and is currently chairman of the Hunter Chapter of the Urban Development Institute of Australia. Monteath & Powys’ portfolio includes the Newcastle Light Rail, the Verve and East End developments.
Nathan Theos has returned to Probuild as executive director of new business, after a two-and-half-year stint with Built. Theos previously worked with Probuild for nearly five years as its new business director and spent 15 years with Multiplex. He will provide executive-level support to Probuild’s new business teams in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and Victoria. Meanwhile, Michael Passarella joins Probuild’s Victorian head office as estimating and bid manager. Passarella amassed more than two decades with CVA Property Consultants.
Savills Australia boosts its NSW business with a new director of occupier services, Katherine Moss, who spent the last eight years working with JLL’s Perth and Sydney tenant representation teams. Moss will lead Savills’ Sydney team, focusing primarily on representing commercial-based tenants.
CBRE has appointed Jarrad Grierson to lead its Perth industrial and logistics division. Grierson has 20-plus years of property industry experience, including his most recent role as senior director of industrial with Knight Frank Perth. Grierson has completed more than $120 million worth of transactions in Perth’s industrial and logistics market over the past 12 months.
Construction and commercial litigator Tony Mylne has joined Queensland law firm Bennett & Philp as construction partner. Mylne, who has most recently worked with HWL Ebsworth and TressCox, brings more than 35 years of industry knowledge to the Brisbane-based legal practice.
Architect, planner and urban designer Chris Melsom has been appointed a new director with Urbis’ national design team. Melsom has previously held senior roles at HASSELL, Tract and the East Perth and Subiaco Redevelopment Authorities. He was recently the director of the Australian Urban Design Research Centre, where he also taught in the Master of Urban Planning program at the University of Western Australia before joining Urbis.
