AVID’s Bruce Harper and Village Building Company’s Travis Doherty take the reins of the Property Council’s Queensland and ACT divisions, Chris Barnett will lead The GPT Group’s retail business and Geoff McIntyre scales back his role with JLL.
In Canberra, Travis Doherty takes up the role of president for the Property Council ACT. Doherty, the CEO of Village Building Company, steps into the shoes of KDN Group’s George Katheklakis. Lendlease’s Arabella Rohde and Amalgamated Property Group’s Phil O’Brien were elected vice presidents. Doherty has led the Village Building Company since 2016 after a long career in financial services.
The GPT Group has appointed Chris Barnett as its head of retail, following the departure of Vanessa Orth, who took up the role of non-aeronautical chief commercial officer at Sydney Airport Corporation. Barnett has held various senior roles in Westfield and Scentre Group in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Most recently, Barnett was Scentre Group’s general manager for development and strategic asset management in New South Wales and South Australia. Barnett joins GPT in mid-April.
Geoff McIntyre, JLL’s managing director for Queensland, will scale back his role with the firm from 1 July. McIntyre, who celebrated his 25th anniversary with JLL in 2018, will continue his client responsibilities with the capital markets and strategic consulting businesses as a part-time consultant. Paul Noonan steps into the role of managing director in Queensland. Noonan has been with the firm since 2005, most recently leading JLL’s NSW capital markets team.
Meanwhile, the Property Council has appointed a new deputy executive director in WA. 
Beth Toon has been appointed Place Design Group’s CEO, in a newly-created role designed to drive growth across the region. Toon has served as the company’s executive director and general manager for four years, leading around 160 people across Australia, China and South East Asia. Toon initially joined the firm as corporate marketing and communications manager after a long career in public relations.
Professor Veena Sahajwalla will lead a new NSW Circular Economy Innovation Network, established by the University of NSW with the help of a $1.5 million state government grant. As executive director Sahajwalla will bring together stakeholders across industry, universities and local and state governments to develop sustainability in waste and recycling in NSW. Sahajwalla is founding director of UNSW’s Centre for Sustainable Materials Research & Technology (SMaRT).
Public sector, local government and community planning specialist Rachel Trigg joins Urbis as a new director. Trigg, who was most recently director of strategy and policy at Elton Consulting, will lead a specialist community planning team. Career highlights include supporting the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Office of Local Government, regional organisations and councils on local government reform across New South Wales.
Engineering firm Lucid Consulting has announced that Jarrad Clift will take the reins from current CEO Anthony Di Marzo on 1 July. Di Marzo, who has held the role since 2012, will move to a director role focused on clients, strategic projects and staff. Clift, who joined Lucid as an engineering graduate in 2005, was appointed to the board in 2017 and created the company’s project managing division.
