Tim Jones takes the reins at MMJ Real Estate, Architectus appoints three new principals, and CBRE expands its national pubs platform with Kate MacDonald.
Three generations of the Jones family have led MMJ Real Estate in Wollongong, now that Tim Jones (above) has taken over the role of managing director from his father, Geoff Jones. Allan Jones was the inaugural managing director Martin Morris & Jones when it was established almost 60 years ago. Geoff Jones will continue as a director, supporting a new generation of partners and shareholders, including Travis Machan, Luke Rollinson and Daniel Hastings. MMJ has more than 150 employees and offices in NSW, Victoria, the ACT and WA.
Architectus has three new principals. Silvia Cupik, who moved to Architectus from Woods Bagot in 2017, has led teams delivering projects in London, Germany and Australia. Prior to joining Architectus as an associate in 2015, Farhad Haidari worked for Crone Partners and Mirvac Design, overseeing landmark multi-unit housing projects from concept through to completion. And Mark Talbot has joined Architectus with 30 years of experience under his belt, most recently leading client and project acquisitions at Geyer.
CBRE has expanded its national pubs platform with the appointment of Kate MacDonald (pictured left) as associate 
director of its hotels division. MacDonald spent two years in hotel brokerage after establishing and growing a dedicated hospitality division at PKF. This followed nine years in Sydney clubs and hotels in manager and licensee roles.
Mirvac has promoted James Harvey to the role of senior investment manager for alternative investments. Harvey has been with Mirvac for five years in various business transformation and innovation roles. Harvey’s career includes 16 years as a professional basketball player and three years as a sports analyst and commentator.
David Craven is the Climate Council’s new director of cities power partnerships. In this role, Craven will work with 100-plus cities, towns and communities to take ambitious climate action. Craven spent four years with C40 Cities as a program manager, and worked with both the Australian and NZ green building councils in tool development. He’s also held sustainability roles with Woods Bagot, Multiplex and Sustainability Victoria.
Monash University has appointed Professor Tony Capon as director of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, commencing in October. Capon will lead the interdisciplinary research and education institute for sustainable development. He will take up the new role following his tenure at the University of Sydney, where he is professor of planetary health in the School of Public Health. Capon’s 30-year career of leadership experience spans research, education, policy and practice in urbanisation, sustainable development and human health.
Peter Vines has taken the reins of Ray White Commercial NSW – Western Sydney. With 15 years’ experience selling real estate Australia and Europe, Vines moves from CBRE where he was a senior director.
Global engineering firm Meinhardt Group has appointed Sean Treweek as CEO of its Australian operation. Treweek was most recently global market sector director with Norman Disney & Young and has held senior roles with WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, VOS Group and AECOM. Meinhardt’s outgoing CEO Denis Young takes a career break after 40 years of service to the company and will be rejoining the firm next year in an advisory capacity.
Reini Otter has been promoted to lead Frasers Property Limited’s new integrated industrial and logistics platform. As CEO, Otter will oversee a $5 billion portfolio of assets. Otter was most recently Frasers Property Australia’s executive general manager for commercial, industrial and property. Matt Knox, currently the developer’s chief financial officer in Australia, moves across as CFO of the new strategic business unit.
