National Mentoring Program

  • August 09, 2022

For years, the Property Council’s National Mentoring Program has been connecting industry leaders with up-and-comers.

This initiative builds on the strong success of the previous programs that have been delivered over the past 11 years (10 in Victoria and one as a National Program), involving over 700 mentees and mentors.

The Property Council National Mentoring Program is dynamic and purpose built for the challenges and opportunities in our industry. It also continues to evolve, informed and guided by an expert Advisory Committee.

Jyotee Patel and Belinda Donnelly (pictured above L to R) were paired together in the most recent program, and both described their worthwhile experiences.

Belinda Donnelly, mentee, said she felt the mentoring helped give her a better perspective as a manager and a leader.

“I was able to use my mentor to work through and iron out staffing issues, utilise my time better and also put in new procedures and processes that were able to streamline processes,” she said.

A goal Donnelly had going into the program was to land a new job, something she managed to do by the end of the program.

“With my mentor’s encouragement I was able to do that,” she said. “If I hadn’t done the program, I don’t believe I would be where I am.”

Jyotee Patel, mentor, said it was a rewarding experience to help their mentee.

“It was really good to see the growth in the person and also giving that confidence,” she said.

Patel said it was rewarding to see the growth in confidence in their mentee and said the fact the mentorship program was through a third party help to accommodate more open conversations.

“A lot of people need that third party who doesn’t know them personally or professionally… there is a relationship where there is a very honest, wonderful conversations,” she said.

Another mentee, Eleanor Kwak said she thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

“I feel that the mentor nominated for me was a perfect match to help me maximise the mentoring experience and I valued the opportunity to meet a diverse range of property industry professionals via the program,” she said.

Kwak said she got involved in the program shortly after returning from parental leave.

“At the time I was wanting to become more connected to the property industry after taking a break from professional life to have a family,” she said.

“The mentoring program enabled me to gain a deeper understanding of the property industry so that I could hone my legal skills and focus on driving positive outcomes for our clients and the industry more broadly.”

Whether you’re seeking a mentor, a way to give back to the industry as a mentor, or opportunities for your staff, this Mentoring Program delivers.
