More than 2,200 people sit on more than 130 specialist industry Committees across the Property Council’s national and state jurisdictions.
Committees spill every two years, and the next round of nominations are now open, with nominations closing soon.
What does it mean to serve on a Committee? We spoke with three current members to hear their perspectives.
Kayla Bolton, General Manager, Portfolio and Projects, UnitingCare. QLD Social Infrastructure Committee (Deputy Chair)
“I have really enjoyed my four years with the Social Infrastructure Committee. We have taken it from the first Social Infrastructure Committee in the country, four years ago, to a formidable Committee today. The opportunity to contribute and help transform the Committee has been really exciting.
“I have enjoyed connecting with likeminded industry professionals who understand the asset class the challenges, issues and opportunities.
“I have found it to be a great opportunity to grow my knowledge and currency of understanding what’s happening in the social infrastructure landscape.
“I believe our careers evolve in three phases, this is just my view, but I feel like you have a learning phase and an earning phase (earning your stripes), and then you have a returning phase.
“And I’m at the point now where I think I’m in the returning phase. I wanted to volunteer in some way, but I wanted to be able to use the skills and my career to do that. So that’s why I applied to the Committee.”
Isabella Mosole, Senior Associate Lavan. WA Planning and Infrastructure Committee.
“The Committee is a space where diverse ideas and perspectives come together to drive positive change.
“Being part of a Committee has allowed me to stay abreast of issues and changes impacting the sector and seek stakeholder feedback in real-time to advocate for commercial outcomes that support the growth of our State,” Isabella said.
“If you are passionate about the property sector and want to play an active role in shaping its future, I highly recommend applying for a Committee position.
“Property Council WA’s committees provide a unique environment to be part of critical discussions that directly inform positive outcomes in our industry.”
George Katheklakis, Managing Director KDN Group. ACT Social Sustainability Committee.
“Signing up to the SSC was a thoroughly rewarding experience that provided a live, engaging forum for professional discussion and better understanding of how our political, social, environmental and economic environments are all intertwined.
“Being actively involved within this forum and participating in the many submissions, events and networking opportunities, participation has led to valuable insights on how the Committee’s actions have the potential to influence our decision makers and in turn how this could have real life effects on the people, businesses and organisations around us.
“Being on the Committee provided a constant reminder of just how interconnected the industry is with our everyday lives around us.”
