Mackay Airport’s Milton Precinct takes off

  • March 09, 2020

On a premier greenfield site in a highly visible and busy traffic zone, Mackay Airport is expanding with a new business, retail and entertainment hub.

Mackay Airport is looking to grow with a call for expressions of interest from businesses for its new Milton Precinct.

The precinct promises to be an integrated, masterplanned and sustainable development.

Mackay Airport general manager Garry Porter says the precinct will deliver long-term infrastructure for the region and forge “meaningful connections to better serve the needs of the Mackay community”.

Mackay, the largest regional city in central Queensland, welcomes more than one million domestic visitors each year.

With a population of 117,000 people, the Mackay region is high-income earning. More than a third of the population earns more than $156,000 a year, and a further 20 per cent earns $100,000-plus.

“Milton Precinct offers enormous potential for a broad range of current and future aviation related industries including freight and cold storage, as well as non-aviation related industries such as advanced manufacturing, technology, entertainment, education, mining and operations,” Porter explains.

Sites available range from 1,000 sqm to 50,000 sqm.

Mackay Airport is part of the North Queensland Airports group, a consortium that includes IIF Cairns Mackay Investment Ltd, The Infrastructure Fund (TIF) and Perron Investments. Cairns Airport is also part of the North Queensland Airports group.

“Milton Precinct is part of the Mackay Airport’s overall vision to develop an airport that meet the needs of the region and its community,” Porter adds.

“We want to utilise the Airport’s land to enable our community to reach its fullest potential and are committed to working with the community, to achieve something we can all be proud of well into the future,” Porter concludes.

Expressions of interest are open until 3 April 2020. Find out more.
