While it might be hard to see through the fog of war, flood, pandemic and the passing of a sporting superstar, Australia is just 13 days from a federal budget and 2 months from a federal election.
At the Property Council, our advocacy work never stops. However, the lead up to a federal election presents a critical moment for us to elevate and pursue our national advocacy agenda.
In coming days, the Property Council will release our federal election platform, which sets out our key priorities for a federal government to address and the policy mechanisms to deliver positive results for our industry, our members and our country.
It’s an agenda that deals with CBD revitalisation, boosting population growth, unlocking housing supply, creating great cities, a net zero emissions plan and a productivity agenda which makes our cities engines of growth.
In particular, we will be drawing focus to the ever-concerning issue of housing affordability. We know this will a major issue as the May election approaches, and you can expect to see the Property Council draw this into sharp focus for voters – the very people who worry about whether they, or their kids will continue to achieve the great Australian dream of home ownership.
The importance and reinvigoration of our CBDs will also be a major campaign piece, and we will build the case for stronger federal leadership in taking our CBDs to their former glory and beyond.
In all, our election platform will present our aspiring political leaders with a seven-point platform – a clear and commonsense path to policy improvements – based on the Property Council’s in-depth research and industry knowledge.
We look forward to sharing the full detail of that election platform very soon! Stay tuned.
