At the Innovation & Excellence Awards last week, Camille Jasson from The APP Group took home the Future Leader award and left the room speechless.

And the reaction was fitting, when she was 24, she moved by herself to Australia, with little more than aspiration and dreams. It took over a year and 120 job applications to get her foot in the door of the Australian property industry.

She first started at Pure Projects, before moving onto The APP Group where she has remained for the past eight years as a Project Director and one of APP’s youngest Business Leads.

“I took a chance 10 years ago to come here and try and build something,” she said.

“I think I got pretty lucky to be surrounded by really great people who gave me a shot. It really influenced me to be the person I am today; Most notably Chris Freeman, who’s mentored me for most of my time at The APP Group.”

On winning the Future Leader award, Ms Jasson described the experience as “surreal”.

Ms Jasson is drawn to health projects in her role, due to the benefit it provides to the community and has most recently managed the development of Epworth Eastern, Adney Private Hospital and Ryman Healthcare Retirement Living Development rollouts.

Under Ms Jasson’s leadership, The Adeney Private Hospital Redevelopment project has incorporated an advanced remote site capturing and monitoring technology known as OpenSpace.

This technology enables the utilisation of augmented reality to compare the construction site with Building Information Modelling data. It also facilitates the comparison of site imagery captured at various time points, providing valuable insights into the project’s progress and changes over time.

But her innovative spirit goes beyond the projects she delivers, it also extends to the team and work culture she is involved in.

During 2022, she took a leadership role in the revision of APP VIC’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Framework.

This responsibility also provided her with the chance to coordinate and lead APP’s inaugural nationwide observance of Wear it Purple Day, demonstrating solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community. Additionally, she collaborated with the Victorian Pride Centre to emphasize the significance of such commemorative days.

Ms Jasson said as a member of the queer community, it was rewarding to bring something she is passionate about in her personal life into work.
