One of Queensland’s largest coworking and innovation spaces, COHORT by Economic Development Queensland was recently presented the state’s top property honour. Find out why.
Why we love this project:

COHORT opened in May 2019 with two major anchor tenants – the Gold Coast University Hospital’s Centre for Digital HealthCare and Griffith University’s Griffith Innovation Centre. Since then, it has grown to accommodate 160 digital health professionals and start-up innovators.
COHORT was crowned the Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Queensland State Development of the Year for a visionary approach to development, says Property Council Queensland executive director, Jen Williams.
“Its design, intent and operational success sets a high standard for coworking precincts in Australia,” Williams says.
A design collaboration between Space Cubed Design Studio and ArkLAB, and constructed by Quadric, COHORT delivers a 2,500 sqm space that promotes collaboration and interaction.
“COHORT has rapidly become a launchpad for health and technology start-ups, entrepreneurs and mentors, creating places and investment opportunities for Queenslanders to prosper,” says RLB managing director, Matt Long. RLB provided cost consultancy services to EDQ.
An integrated design approach delivers private offices, coworking desks, bespoke tenancies, meeting rooms, event space, labs, a kitchen, end-of-trip facilities, podcast studio and a boardroom.
The Queensland State Development of the Year award is part of the national 2021 Property Council of Australia / Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards program. RLB has partnered with the Property Council to present the awards program since its inception in 1982.
All development finalists are in the running for the industry’s most coveted prize – the Rider Levett Bucknall Australian Development of the Year award. COHORT is also vying for national recognition in the government leadership category. Winners will be announced later in the year.
