Member Spotlight – Stockland partnering with Women’s Health Centre in Shellharbour

Stockland Shellharbour are partnering with the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre in their campaign for a Trauma Recovery Centre to be established in Shellharbour. Their partnership includes:

  • Provision of a $5000 Grant in 2018 as part of ‘Stockland Community Grants Program’
  • Placement of materials detailing the support services within hairdressers and female bathrooms
  • Creation of a DV ‘Safe Room’ facility at the Centre – where victims of domestic violence can seek a discreet consultation with a Case Worker, to discuss their circumstances. An appointment is made by calling the Women’s Health Centre. The arrangement is made to meet at the Shopping Centre – which is often a great cover for women in this situation, as it is an ‘accepted’ place to visit within many of these relationships. After introductions, the case worker takes the person to the ‘Safe Room’ (which is unmarked) for a discreet consultation about their circumstances and to provide support and management strategies unique to individual circumstances.
  • In January, Stockland Shellharbour will host the travelling photography exhibition which is a photographic exhibition which showcases the ‘resilience and resistance’ of domestic violence survivors and is a collaboration between the Illawarra Mercury’s award-winning photographer Sylvia Liber and the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre.
