Newcastle Airport Gearing Up
The last month has seen some really positive developments for Newcastle Airport and some light at the end of the COVID tunnel.
Among the exciting news out of last month was definitely increased activity at Newcastle Airport with increasing connections out of Newcastle to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Ballina and Dubbo.
The Hunter Region also has a direct connection with world famous Lord Howe Island with the recent launch of the first direct service from Newcastle Airport with Eastern Air Services.
Airport CEO Dr Peter Cock said that launching the service to the World Heritage site was an important occasion for the airport and a sign of more positive things to come.
“The opening of interstate flights has conjured a real sense of optimism in the region,” he said.
“Adding an exciting new destination to our schedule, particularly one as iconic as Lord Howe, will only heighten that sense of hope.”
Link Airways also launched its first Newcastle – Canberra service on Friday 20 November, with the first inbound flight arriving at 7.30am and departing again for the Nation’s Capital at 8am. The service is operated by Canberra based airline Link Airways who will fly a 34-seater Saab 340B Plus aircraft with a flight time of just 60-minutes to the ACT.
Newcastle Airport CEO Dr Peter Cock says the new service will offer the region greater choice and flexibility at a time when the skies are re-opening to leisure and business travellers.
In a final piece of great news, a A320 plane load of passengers touched down at Newcastle Airport last week on board Jetstar flight JQ474, following the 12.01am opening of the NSW/Victorian border.
The near capacity flight was carrying mostly family and friends who have been separated by border restrictions since 10th July.
While we will continue to push for important runway upgrades in a time sensitive environment, it is great to see movement occurring with all these recent announcements. You can find more details on the Newcastle Airport website.
Special recognition of service for Carmel Foster
The Property Council offers a special thank you to Carmel Foster in recognition of her long-term contribution to the Hunter Chapter Committee.
Carmel has held the position of Group Manager of Corporate Services at Port Stephens Council until her recent resignation to take on new adventures and we wish her all the very best with this.
Carmel was the very first female to join the Hunter Chapter in 2009 and has played a very active role on the committee and subcommittees including in her role as Deputy Chair. Carmel’s participation has certainly helped us in our efforts to provide richer, more diverse representation and views in finding solutions to the challenges we face, and we can’t thank her enough for this.
We have greatly valued her participation and contributions to improving outcomes for both industry and the region and look forward to the opportunity to stay in touch and work with Carmel in the future. Thank you so much Carmel!
