It was a pleasure to be on Seven Network's Sunrise talking the Federal Budget housing - verdict "silver medal" from windswept guest

Last week in crisp Canberra we backed better planning approvals and more tradie migrants through a heavy round of Federal Budget media.

Sink your teeth into our budget views here and check out our Student Accommodation Council and Retirement Living Council responses. Hat tip team national advocacy.

Travelling to NSW, ACT, QLD, TAS and WA over the fortnight I was proud to see our teams host cracking People in Property awards, get wins in many state budgets, host Premiers and planning Ministers, hold great summits and lunches and continue to champion our industry.

Speaking of – your company reps have now received your membership renewal details for the year ahead via email.

From our expert Committees (we spill them this September), to our broad array of events and networking opportunities, our Academy’s professional development, our trusted and beneficial industry research, our awards and diversity initiatives, you can leverage the benefits of your membership in so many ways.

Not only your strong voice, we are advancing your business and your people. Every day. Across the country. We look forward to continuing to work with you, championing your interests and providing you with the resources to succeed.

500 Women in Property

Our wonderful 500 Women in Property (500 WIP) is back and nominations open – here.

An initiative of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committees, a remarkable 3,800 women have participated since 2016.

500 WIP accelerates more women into leadership positions in the property industry by sponsoring high-potential talent.

500 WIP involves a personal commitment from sponsors (women and men) to champion women in their organisation and networks who could benefit from exposure and professional development opportunities.

Sponsors advocate for their nominees in the workplace and help build their networks and profile, leading to positive development outcomes.

Get to it – please share this with colleagues and emerging leaders who would benefit from joining the 2024 cohort!

My annual book review

Took some plane time to review The Next Australian City edited by friends Ross Elliott and Guy Gibson. Packed with insights, this is an unashamed love letter to Australian suburbia. Equally, it is clear eyed about the trends that will shape our suburban future.

If, like me, you have an unbreakable love of the centres our extraordinary cities down the decades since fire tech, airconditioning and elevators liberated buildings from the surly bonds of earth, then you’ll find this book a healthy challenge to what the authors call the ‘authorised version of urbanism’.

Many terrific Australian authors and a giant or two, including the great Joel Kotkin, allow this collection to cleverly combine global and local perspectives with policy lessons for all Australia’s great cities and civic leaders.

The Next Australian City available for pre-order now. Buy it early, buy it often.

Next week – Canberra bound for the Property Leaders’ Summit.
