It is a privilege to stand on the shoulders of giants.
I am honoured the Board of the Property Council of Australia has appointed me as Chief Executive.
I thank you all for your positive feedback and the support and wisdom of previous Chief Executives, Presidents, executives and friends from the property industry and our terrific Property Council team. And now to work.
Through our three-year strategy, we will work with members, allies, and all tiers of government to realise the full potential of our great industry. We will also be growing our voice in Canberra through the life of this Parliament.
This year our thought leadership agenda will champion housing, investment in our cities and getting the road to zero and resilience right.
I look forward to seeing many of you in each state and territory in the next fifty days, connecting across the country as our team delivers business essential events for you and your teams.
As part of our new strategy, the Property Council has been consulting with members and seeking guidance from divisions to determine what approach we should take on the proposed Voice to Parliament. Yesterday, staff and members heard from Noel Pearson to better understand what is being proposed as part of our continuing process over the next few months. You can read more on what he said here.
Property leaders are community leaders. I congratulate Victor Hoog Antink AM who received a Member in the General division of the Order of Australia this past week for his significant service to the property industry, and to corporate governance.
Congratulations also goes to other leaders who intersect with property and the Property Council who also received honours: Mary Patetsos OAM, The Venerable Canon Professor Peter Sandeman AM, Nicholas Chapley OAM, Chris Johnson OAM, Nicola Wakefield Evans AM, Jane Hemstritch AO, Harry Xydas AM, Gail Connolly PSM and Dr Kirstin Irene Ferguson AM.
On a sombre note, I offer the condolences of our Property Council family to the family of our friend Matt Schneider, a wonderful husband and father, a Chair of our Gold Coast chapter and a supporter of the Gold Coast’s sporting and business communities. Matt’s passing last week brings profound grief, and his generous life exemplifies what it is to be your best in this world. Vale Matt.
