Members are at the heart of everything we do, and committees are the highest expression of their passion for our great industry.
The first weeks of my 50-day plan have taken me to Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania Western Australian and specialist divisions. There has been a positive vibe from Brisbane to Adelaide, and from the Hunter, Sydney to Hobart.
At each event I’ve thanked our outgoing and incoming division council and committee members for their service. Alongside our terrific staff teams, our Presidents and Committee Chairs in particular guide the work of almost 2800 active committee members around the country.
This spirit of volunteer service is the hallmark of our organisation’s remarkable success and longevity over the past 54 years.
Whether you want better cities, more housing, improved planning, clever decarbonisation, smarter tax settings, a more inclusive industry or all these things, giving your time to advance the Property Council’s efforts is one of the most generous things you can do. I am always humbled to think of the hours members devote to our thought leadership agenda and to the running of our terrific events and academy.
It is this combination of expertise, leadership and service that makes us the best industry association in the country. I know I reflect the thoughts of the Board and our executive leaders when I thank you for it.
And speaking of thanks, this week marks the final Board meeting with David Harrison as our National President. As CEO of Charter Hall David has a lot on. While he will remain with us as Immediate Past President it is important to reflect that his leadership as Vice President and President helped us navigate the pandemic and come back stronger than ever.
I also thank Adrian Esplin, Sarah, Andrew Hay, Sunshine Coast Airport, Bob Johnston, The GPT Group Josephine Sukkar AM, Buildcorp M-L MacDonald, Masonic Care, Paige Walker, Mirvac, Sam Tarascio, Salta Properties, Sophie Fallman, Brookfield, Virginia Briggs, Minter Ellison and Kim Gregory.
I thank you all and note that Bob as Vice President and Virginia in particular have served the industry over four terms and respectively aided us as the Chair of Property Champions of Change and as the Chair of our Board Remuneration Committee among many other gifts of time and effort.
Having agreed with South Australian Premier Malinauskas and our Executive Director Bruce Djite last week about the need for more types of housing choice and welcome efforts to improve supply, today I have pleasure of joining Executive Director Sandra Brewer, our Western Australian members and Premier McGowan at the WA team’s Vision for the State for some fresh new policy discussions.
After that, the 50-day plan takes me to Melbourne and the Territories. See you there.
