This week is National Homelessness Week, giving us a chance to raise awareness of the impact homelessness has on people and our communities.
The theme for this week’s National Homelessness Week is to end homelessness we need a plan, and it’s a theme we support.
Indeed, the new Federal Government has committed to creating a National Housing and Homelessness Plan and while the Property Council does not make itself out to be an expert on homelessness issues, we will be arguing strongly for solutions to address housing supply, provide more rental housing and incentivises to create affordable housing.
However, the power of the property industry to help tackle youth homelessness was on full display at the Property Industry Foundation’s 25th anniversary celebrations last week.
In a tremendous night, the industry raised just shy of $1 million for the Foundation’s worthy work. Corporates and individuals alike were pledging hard and there was plenty of friendly rivalry in the room. A huge congratulations to chair Penny Ransom, CEO Kate Mills and the PIF team for this amazing outcome.
A great contribution from the industry, ahead of an important week of awareness around the issue of homelessness.
