Chief Executive | Much to be done

It’s been a jam-packed six months for Property Council Chief Executive Mike Zorbas

Thank you.

It’s been six months as Chief Executive, and it has been energising.

Energising to experience the cleverness and resolve of our members, shaping our cities for the better. Energising to witness our talented Property Council teams drive powerful advocacy campaigns, informative events, celebration of our stars and vital learning and research efforts.

In every state, territory and Division around the country you are engaging tirelessly with tax, planning and regulation changes being fired off by ever more active and activist governments.

I saw that energy and resolve in evidence last week in Brisbane. President Luke Howard, Executive Director Jen Williams and our terrific Brisbane team and Division Council in full flight across council meetings, media briefings, office market reports and SEQ Regional Plan discussions with senior decision-makers and opinion formers.

Not to mention high-octane dedication from former Executive Director Ross Elliott, advocating intently for a future Property Congress in Brisbane, and ex-President Bill Humble, over 90 and no less an enthusiastic supporter of our events than a decade ago or the decades before that.

This is just one snapshot, in one place, in half a week, of the passionate commitment that powers our thought-leading organisation and our community building industry.

The pace of work has sped up since the proud days of Building, Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), but the commitment remains the same. We will continue to be the strongest voice for our members in challenging times. We will champion better planning for our cities, more domestic and overseas investment and ensure our increasingly sustainable and diverse industry is the best possible place for organisations and individuals to prosper.

Across the board, our senior leaders and I will continue to make and call for change that will be challenging for some and welcomed by others.

Thank you for backing us as we back you. There is much to be done and no time to lose.

Postscript

Halfway through my first year, an additional thank you to the three loyal readers who hitchhike all the way through my editorial each week. I love you, Dad.
