The NSW budget for 2023 arrived yesterday.
As Katie Stevenson, our NSW ED, said, “There is an enormous difference between land that is ‘rezoned’ and land that is ‘development ready’ – the missing ingredient is … water, roads and transport.”
So the $2.2 billion pledged for that infrastructure is welcome. A lot more is now riding on the Transport Oriented Development SEPP and the housing and planning reform package due just around the corner.
Join me to hear Premier Minns in conversation with Laura Jayes on these matters at our lunch on Wednesday next week at the Fullerton.
Victoria and Queensland
All eyes on Victoria and Queensland today.
State governments don’t control skilled construction migration (though they should speak up for it). State governments don’t control the cost of capital but they do set planning vision, culture and land use and housing delivery outcomes for millions of Australians in their care.
Can Victoria, the nation’s housing supply heavy-lifter, regain its crown? Will the nation’s favourite internal migration destination set the pace toward the national accord targets?
The long-awaited Victorian Premier’s Housing Statement and the Queensland Government Housing Roundtable today will both set the tone for the year ahead.
