This week saw the re-opening of our international borders. After all we’ve endured over the past two years, it is a most significant and important milestone.
It’s important for our recovery as a nation, for our vital education and tourism sectors and for the rebound of our industry. For businesses in these industries, it is the lifeline they have been waiting for.
The opening of a range of skilled and short term visa classes is also a welcome boon for all those businesses struggling with staff shortages, providing talent the economy sorely needs.
Tourists and students are also vital to the important work of revitalising our CBDs. Plus, the move starts the long process of normalising our population settings and reversing the negative net overseas migration that threatens to be a dead weight on recovery if it were allowed to continue.
More than anything, it is a symbol of confidence as we continue to move towards living more normally.
Coinciding with the re-opening, we also saw a whirlwind of government announcements, with the WA Government finally opening its borders, and other jurisdictions winding back work-from-home orders and mask mandates.
These outcomes are all ones the Property Council of Australia has had a role in shaping, and milestones we warmly welcome.
